Toy train in Darjeeling
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway climbs from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling on a two-foot gauge line opened in 1881. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Most visitors take the short joy ride from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back, behind a steam or diesel engine. We book seats when the IRCTC window opens and plan a back-up if the line is closed.
