Chowrasta morning and breakfast at Glenary's

Chowrasta is the flat square at the top of town, where four roads meet. At 6.30 am it belongs to walkers, monks, schoolchildren and pony men, and on clear days Kangchenjunga appears above the rooftops. The Mall loop circles Observatory Hill in about 40 minutes, with benches and viewpoints along the way.
Then walk down Nehru Road to Glenary's, founded as a confectioner's around 1885 and still one of the town's best-known cafés, for breakfast, pastries and a pot of Darjeeling tea. Keventer's, a few doors down, is famous for its terrace breakfasts and hot chocolate. Prices are higher than local cafés but still fair.
