Yangsum Heritage Farm

A working family farm below Rinchenpong, with rooms in an old farmhouse dating from the 1820s and a newer cottage. It is one of the best-known farmstays in Sikkim and a calm alternative to Pelling hotels.

Yangsum is the home farm of a long-established Rinchenpong family. Guests stay in the restored farmhouse or a cottage, eat meals made from the farm's own cardamom, vegetables, rice and dairy, and walk out through orange orchards and terraced fields. The view across the valley takes in the Kangchenjunga range on clear days.

It suits travellers who want to slow down for two nights, read, walk to Rinchenpong Monastery and the old village paths, and talk to their hosts about farming in West Sikkim. It is not a hotel, so expect simple rooms and fixed meal times.

Why we book it

  1. Food grown on the farm and cooked in the family kitchen
  2. A real working farm with orchards and cardamom groves
  3. Easy walks to Rinchenpong Monastery and the old poison lake
  4. Quiet nights, far from tourist traffic

Questions travellers ask

Good to know

How do I reach Yangsum Heritage Farm

It is just below Rinchenpong village in West Sikkim, about 40 km and 1.5–2 hours from Pelling or about 130 km and 5 hours from Siliguri via Jorethang. The last stretch is a narrow village road, so confirm directions with the farm. Shared jeeps run from Jorethang to Rinchenpong, from where the farm can arrange a pick-up.

Are meals included at Yangsum

Most plans include all meals, served at set times. Food is mostly vegetarian Sikkimese and Nepali home cooking using produce from the farm, with meat on request. Tell the hosts about allergies or dietary needs in advance, because the nearest shops are in Rinchenpong and Kaluk. Rates are indicative; confirm the current meal plan when you book.

Is Yangsum suitable for children

Older children who like animals, orchards and walking usually enjoy it. There is no television, swimming pool or play area, and paths are uneven and steep in places, so it is less suited to toddlers. Families who want to see how a hill farm works, from cardamom drying to milking, find it one of the most rewarding stays in Sikkim.
