Elgin Mount Pandim

Mount Pandim began as a Sikkim government guest house and is now run by the Elgin group, which also runs heritage hotels in Darjeeling and Kalimpong. It sits on its own wooded spur next to Pemayangtse, so you can walk to the monastery for the morning prayers and to the ruins of Rabdentse without a car.
Rooms are traditional rather than flashy: wooden floors, heaters, and a fixed menu in the dining room. Ask for a room facing the range. The hotel is away from the shops of Upper Pelling, which is the point: evenings are quiet and the night sky is dark.
Why we book it
- Walking distance to Pemayangtse Monastery and the Rabdentse ruins
- Kangchenjunga views from the lawn without the noise of Upper Pelling
- Meals included in most plans, which suits a quiet two-night stay
- An established operator with heritage hotels across the hills
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is Elgin Mount Pandim in Pelling town
Not quite. It sits about 2 km below Upper Pelling on the spur beside Pemayangtse Monastery, at roughly 2,100 m. The shops and restaurants of Upper Pelling are a 10-minute drive or a 30-minute uphill walk. Most guests like the distance, because the hotel is quiet at night and the monastery is a five-minute walk away for the early prayers.
Can you see Kangchenjunga from the rooms
On a clear morning, yes, from the lawns and from the rooms on the valley side. Views are best from October to early December and again in March and April. In the monsoon, from June to September, cloud usually hides the range for days at a time. Ask for a mountain-facing room when you book, and check the latest room plan with the hotel.
Is it worth the price over a Value hotel in Upper Pelling
If you want a quiet stay with history around you and meals included, yes. If you mainly want to sleep and spend your days out sightseeing, a good Value hotel in Upper Pelling at ₹3,000–5,000 a night gives similar mountain views for less. We suggest Mount Pandim for couples and slower trips of two nights or more.
