Sillery Gaon village homestays

Sillery Gaon is a small village of a few dozen houses on a ridge at about 1,830 m. Over the past fifteen years many families have added rooms or cottages for guests. Most rooms are simple wood or concrete with attached bathrooms, and the better ones have balconies facing the mountains.
Meals are cooked at home and eaten with the family or in a small dining room. The last stretch of road up from Pedong is narrow and steep, so check with your host before sending a large vehicle. Hosts arrange guides and cars for Ramitey Dara, Damsang Fort and Pedong.
Why we book it
- Kanchenjunga views from many rooms
- Short drive or walk to Ramitey Dara
- Good base for Pedong and Damsang history
- Easy to add to a Kalimpong or Silk Route trip
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Can a car reach Sillery Gaon homestays?
Yes, but the road from Pedong is narrow, steep and partly rough, especially after rain. Small cars and local jeeps manage it; large tempo travellers often cannot reach the top. Your host may send a local jeep from Pedong. Check road conditions with them a day before, especially between June and September.
What is included in a Sillery Gaon homestay?
The usual plan includes a room with attached bathroom and all meals, from breakfast to dinner, plus evening tea. Expect about ₹1,500–2,200 a person a night, indicative. A guide to Ramitey Dara or a jeep to Damsang Fort is extra. Ask whether hot water is by geyser and whether heaters are available in winter.
Is Sillery Gaon good for families with children?
Yes, if the children are happy with simple rooms and quiet evenings. There is space to play in the village and easy walks. The road up is steep and winding, so carry motion sickness tablets. Keep an eye on small children at the viewpoints, which have long drops and few railings.
