Crossing the Punakha suspension bridge

The Punakha suspension bridge spans the Pho Chhu a short drive upstream from the dzong. It is roughly 160–180 m long and links the road to villages on the far bank. Prayer flags cover the cables, and the bridge moves gently underfoot when several people cross.
Walk across and back, or continue a little way into the fields on the other side. The view down the river towards the dzong is good, and in the evening light the flags glow. Pair it with the dzong visit in the same afternoon.
