Hotel Sonam Delek

Sonam Delek is one of Gangtok's older family-run hotels and sits on Tibet Road, just above the main market area. Valley-facing rooms on the upper floors catch the Kangchenjunga range at sunrise from October to April when the sky is clear. The restaurant serves Sikkimese, Tibetan and Indian food.
We use it for Value-tier trips because it is central, well kept and run by people who understand what travellers on a tight schedule need: early breakfasts on Tsomgo days, help with taxis, and somewhere warm to come back to. Ask for a mountain-view room and book early for October and May.
Why we book it
- Central on Tibet Road, a short walk to MG Marg
- Mountain-view rooms on clear days
- Early breakfasts for permit-day departures
- Consistent service at a fair mid-range price
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Do rooms at Hotel Sonam Delek have mountain views?
The valley-facing rooms on the upper floors look towards the Kangchenjunga range, which shows best on clear mornings between October and April. In the monsoon, cloud usually hides the peaks. Mountain-view rooms cost a little more and sell out first in peak season, so ask for one specifically when you book.
Is there parking near Hotel Sonam Delek?
Tibet Road is narrow and parking is limited, as it is across central Gangtok. Most guests arrive by taxi and do not need parking. If you are driving your own car, ask the hotel in advance where to leave it, and expect a short walk from the nearest space.
What food does the hotel restaurant serve?
The restaurant serves a mix of Sikkimese, Tibetan, Indian and simple continental dishes, including momos, thukpa and dal-rice meals. Vegetarian options are always available. Many guests eat dinner in town on MG Marg and use the hotel for breakfast, which is served early on request for Tsomgo and Nathu La days.
