Walk and boat on Lampokhari lake

Walk the level path around Lampokhari in the early morning, then take a pedal boat out on the water when the day warms up. It is the simple heart of a stay in Aritar.

The lake path runs through forest and past small shelters and benches. In the early morning, mist often hangs over the water and the forest is full of birdsong. Kingfishers and wagtails hunt along the shore, and the reflections of the trees are at their best before the wind rises.

Later in the day, pedal boats come out and families arrive from nearby towns. A boat for half an hour is fun for children and gives a view of the lake's length that you cannot get from the shore. Pay the small entry fee at the gate and keep the area litter-free.

The path around the lake is roughly 1–1.5 km and takes about 30–45 minutes at a slow pace with stops. It is mostly level and paved, so it suits children and older walkers. In the monsoon some sections can be slippery, and leeches may appear on the forest edges.

Are there places to eat near Lampokhari?

There are a few small cafés and stalls near the lake selling tea, momos, noodles and snacks. For proper meals, homestays serve lunch and dinner on request. Choices are limited, so tell your homestay in advance if you want lunch after a morning at the lake.
