Jeep safari to Nal Raja Garh

The safari starts from the Kodalbasti side and follows narrow forest tracks under tall sal trees. Your guide watches for elephant signs, gaur and deer, and stops for hornbills, woodpeckers and drongos. The light is low and the forest is thick, so sightings are fleeting.
The track ends near Nal Raja Garh, where you can get down and walk a short way along the old brick walls with the guide. Do not climb on the ruins or take bricks. The return drive is often the time for an elephant sighting, as herds come out in the late afternoon.
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Can I walk at Nal Raja Garh?
Yes, a short walk near the ruins with your guide is part of the safari. Stay with the group, as this is forest with elephants and leopards. Do not climb on walls or remove anything. Wear closed shoes, as the ground is uneven and leafy.
How long is the Chilapata safari?
About 2–2.5 hours, including the stop at Nal Raja Garh. Morning and afternoon slots are available in season. Report at the starting point 15–30 minutes early with photo ID. Times change with season and forest department rules.
Will I see animals at Chilapata?
Sightings are less certain than at Jaldapara because the forest is dense. Elephants, gaur, deer, wild boar and many birds are possible. Leopards live here but are rarely seen. Go for the forest and the ruins, and count animals as a bonus.
