Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is a day trip from Pelling to Yuksom worth it
Yes, especially combined with Khecheopalri Lake and Kanchenjunga Falls. You can see Norbugang and Kathok Lake in an hour, but Dubdi Monastery needs another two hours on foot. If you have time, stay a night in Yuksom: it is calm, cheap and much nicer after the day visitors leave.
Is the Pelling to Yuksom road good
It is a narrow, winding mountain road, mostly paved but with rough patches and slide zones, especially in the monsoon. Local drivers handle it daily. Allow 1.5–2 hours and do not drive it yourself in the dark. In heavy rain, check current status before you travel, as small slides can block it for hours.
Can I go from Yuksom to Tashiding directly
Yes. Tashiding is about 19 km from Yuksom, roughly 1 hour by car, and a reserved car costs about ₹1,500–2,000 one way. From Tashiding you can continue to Legship and Ravangla or back to Pelling, which makes a good loop through the old monastic sites of West Sikkim.
Do I need a permit to travel from Pelling to Yuksom
No permit is needed for Indians. Foreigners need only their Sikkim ILP to visit Yuksom village. Permits are needed only if you plan to enter Khangchendzonga National Park on the Dzongri or Goecha La trek, which are arranged in Yuksom through a registered agency. Check current status before you travel.
