Ridge walk to Resum Monastery

The walk starts from a road head above the village and follows a path through mixed forest and bamboo, with some steep pitches, for about 3 km. Resum is a small monastery with a few prayer flags and an open courtyard. Few visitors go, so you are likely to have it to yourselves.
Birdlife is good in the mornings. Carry water and a snack, and ask your host or a local guide to show you the start, as paths fork.
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How long is the walk to Resum Monastery
It is about 3 km each way from the road head above Rinchenpong, taking 1–1.5 hours each way at an easy pace, with a few steep sections. Allow 2–3 hours in total with time at the monastery. The path is mostly through forest, so it stays cool even on sunny days.
Do I need a guide for the Resum walk
Not strictly, but it helps. The path is not marked and forks in places. Ask your homestay to show you the start or send someone along; local guides cost about ₹800–1,500 per group. Go in daylight, carry a phone and tell your host when you expect to return.
Is the Resum walk suitable for children
Children over about seven who are used to walking usually manage it. Some sections are steep and rough, so hold small children's hands on those parts. Carry snacks and water, and turn back if it starts to rain. It is not suitable for prams or people with limited mobility.
