Jeep safari across the Torsa grasslands

Safaris run in fixed slots from early morning to mid-afternoon. Each jeep takes up to six people with a driver and a forest department guide. The tracks wind through elephant grass, across dry channels and along the edge of riverine forest, with stops at viewpoints and water holes where rhinos graze.
Besides rhino you may see Asian elephants, gaur, sambar, hog deer, wild boar, peafowl and hornbills. Mornings are cooler and better for birds; afternoons can bring rhinos out to wallows. Keep quiet, stay seated and let the guide decide how close to go.
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How long is the Jaldapara jeep safari?
Each safari lasts about 1.5–2 hours, depending on the route and the slot. Reporting time is 15–30 minutes before the start at the gate or counter. Dawn slots start around sunrise, which is about 6 am in winter. Bring your ID and the printed or digital booking.
How much does a jeep safari cost at Jaldapara?
Expect roughly ₹3,000–4,500 per jeep for up to six people, covering vehicle hire, park entry and the forest guide. Foreign nationals pay higher entry fees. Camera fees may be charged separately. These are indicative 2025–26 figures; fees are set by the forest department and can change.
Can I share a Jaldapara jeep with strangers?
Yes, many travellers do. Lodges in Madarihat often group guests into shared jeeps so that each person pays a share of the per-vehicle fee. Ask at your lodge the evening before. Solo travellers and couples save a lot this way.
